Alaska voters passed Ballot Measure 2 in 2014, legalizing recreational cannabis for adults 21 and older. Alaska's home cultivation rules are among the more permissive in the country:

• Home grow limit: Adults 21+ may grow up to 6 plants per person, with no more than 3 mature (flowering) plants at a time.
• Household cap: If two or more adults live at a residence, the household limit rises to 12 plants total, with no more than 6 mature at once.
• Enclosed and out of public view: Plants must be grown in a locked, enclosed area that can't be seen from outside without aids like binoculars or aircraft.
• No permit required: Alaska does not require a license or registration for personal cultivation within these limits.
• Felony threshold: Growing 25 or more plants becomes a felony, so staying within the 6-per-person / 12-per-household limits is important.
• Medical patients: Alaska's medical marijuana registry allows the same 6-plant (3 mature) cultivation limit as recreational users — there's no separate, larger allowance for registered patients.
