Is It Legal to Grow Cannabis Clones in Maryland?

Yes. Adults 21 and older may legally cultivate up to 2 cannabis plants per household, out of public view. This is a household cap, not a per-person limit — two adults living together still share the same 2-plant maximum. Registered medical cannabis patients can grow up to 2 additional plants, bringing a household with a patient to a total of 4 plants.

Plants must be secured against access by anyone under 21, typically in a locked enclosure, and must not be visible from a neighbor's property or the street — if a plant can be seen with the naked eye from outside your property line, that's a compliance issue. You must own the property or have your landlord's written permission to grow there. As of 2025, Maryland also permits adults to manufacture their own cannabis edibles and concentrates at home for personal use, as long as the process avoids volatile solvents like butane or propane.
