Shipped Statewide to Your Door

New York legalized medical cannabis back in 2016 and recreational use in March 2021, but home cultivation took years longer to actually arrive — the state's "Personal Home Cultivation" rules didn't take effect until June 26, 2024, finally giving New Yorkers the right to grow their own.
Is It Legal to Grow Cannabis Clones in New York?
Yes. Adults 21 and older may legally cultivate up to 3 mature plants and 3 immature plants per person, with a household maximum of 12 plants total regardless of how many adults live there. Homes may also keep up to 5 pounds of cannabis flower (or its equivalent) on the property. This right applies statewide, including on Native American reservations, and doesn't require a license — that's reserved for commercial cultivators.
Plants must be grown in a secure area not visible to the public. Landlords retain the right to prohibit cultivation on rental property through lease terms, even where state law permits it.
This page is for informational purposes only and is not legal advice. Cannabis laws change, and enforcement can vary. Please confirm current rules with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management before growing.

Match your region, not just your zone
New York spans several genuinely different growing climates within one state. Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley get a longer frost-free season and higher summer humidity, the Finger Lakes benefit from lake-effect moderation that extends the season, and the North Country and Adirondacks run a short, cool season where an early indoor start matters far more than strain choice alone. Check our current clone inventory before ordering.
Humidity and mold pressure are the real Northeast challenge
Unlike drier Western states, New York's summer humidity — especially downstate and in the Hudson Valley — creates real mold and bud rot risk during flowering. Good airflow, plant spacing, and a proactive fungicide-free management routine matter more here than in arid climates.
Apartment and small-space growers need a real indoor plan
A large share of New York's population lives in apartments or co-ops without meaningful outdoor space, and the "not visible from public view, exclusive-use space only" requirement rules out shared courtyards and building common areas. Our Grow Guide covers compact indoor setups that meet the letter of the law in a bedroom, closet, or dedicated grow tent.
Short-season upstate growers should start early, indoors
North Country, Adirondack, and Western New York growers face a compressed outdoor window. Starting clones indoors and hardening off after the last frost date gives plants enough head start to finish before fall cold arrives — see our Grow Guide for timing basics.
Training techniques help maximize yield in limited legal space
Because New York's plant counts are capped per person regardless of grow space, low-stress training and SCROG methods that maximize yield per plant matter more than in states with looser limits.
New York City
New York City's humid subtropical-leaning climate brings hot, muggy summers, making indoor cultivation the more predictable choice for consistent results in the five boroughs. We ship clones to NYC growers and recommend mold-resistant genetics suited to urban summer humidity.
Buffalo
Buffalo's location near Lake Erie brings significant lake-effect weather, with cold, snowy winters and a shorter growing season than downstate New York. We ship clones to Buffalo growers and recommend hardy strains suited to a compressed western New York growing season.
Albany
Albany's upstate location experiences New York's full four-season climate, with warm summers and cold winters that favor indoor setups for predictable harvests. We ship clones to Albany growers and recommend versatile genetics adaptable to the Hudson Valley's seasonal swings.
Syracuse
Syracuse sits in central New York's snowbelt, known for heavy lake-effect snow and a notably short outdoor growing window. We ship clones to Syracuse growers and recommend faster-flowering strains suited to central New York's compressed season.
Ithaca
Finger Lakes microclimates give Ithaca a longer growing season than much of Central New York, and the area's strong home-gardening culture means good local knowledge of what strains finish reliably here. We ship clones to Ithaca-area growers.
Poughkeepsie
Hudson Valley growers get one of the state's longest and mildest outdoor seasons outside Long Island, with summer humidity being the main factor to manage rather than cold. We ship clones to Poughkeepsie-area growers.
Lake Placid
High in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid faces the shortest growing season and latest frost risk in the state, making an early indoor start essential rather than optional. We ship clones to Lake Placid-area growers.
Long Island (Suffolk and Nassau)
Long Island's maritime climate gives it the mildest, longest outdoor season in the state, and suburban yard space makes outdoor cultivation genuinely practical for many growers here in a way it isn't in denser parts of the state. We ship clones to Long Island-area growers.
Saratoga Springs
Saratoga sits in a transitional zone between the Capital Region's moderate climate and the cooler terrain to the north, with a growing season that rewards attentive timing around the last and first frost dates. We ship clones to Saratoga Springs-area growers.
Adults 21 and older can grow up to 3 mature plants and 3 immature plants per person, with a household maximum of 12 plants regardless of how many adults live there.
New York legalized recreational cannabis in 2021, but home cultivation rules didn't take effect until June 26, 2024 — a multi-year gap between legalization and actual home-grow rights.
No. Personal cultivation within the plant limits doesn't require a license. Licensing only applies to commercial cultivators.
Yes. Landlords can prohibit cannabis cultivation through lease terms, even in a state where it's otherwise legal.
