Is It Legal to Grow Cannabis Clones in Maine?

Yes. Under Title 28-B of the Maine Revised Statutes, adults 21 and older may legally cultivate up to 6 mature cannabis plants, 12 immature plants, and an unlimited number of seedlings — and this is a per-person limit, not a household limit, meaning two adults living together can each grow their own full allotment. Maine law is notably grower-friendly: municipalities cannot ban home cultivation outright, and any local ordinance limiting plant counts must still allow at least the state minimum.

Plants must be grown at your primary residence, and if you're growing on rented property, you'll need your landlord's written permission, with the property owner's name required on plant tags. Growers must take reasonable precautions to prevent access by anyone under 21, though unlike Maine's medical program, recreational growers aren't required to use a locked enclosure.
