- Storage limits: You may keep up to 10 ounces of cannabis at home; anything over 2.5 ounces must be stored in a locked container or area.
- Medical patients and caregivers: Michigan's medical marijuana program (established 2008) allows registered patients and caregivers to cultivate under separate rules — caregivers can grow for up to 5 patients plus themselves, for a total of up to 72 plants, all within secure, enclosed conditions.
- Local and landlord rules: Michigan municipalities can add local restrictions around zoning or security, and landlords can prohibit cannabis cultivation in a lease regardless of your state-level right to grow.
